CBA Yorkshire Fireside Chats Series 5

Following a summer in which a number of projects and other activities have started again, we are pleased to announce that the Fireside Chats, which proved so popular last year, are been resumed.

On the assumption that, hopefully, there will be more meetings that people can attend in person from now on, we have decided to offer the Zoom presentations on a monthly rather than a fortnightly basis.  Three dates have been confirmed between now and Christmas.

The same timings will apply as for previous chats  … The waiting room will open from 7.15 pm for a 7.30 start

These are:

Tuesday 26th October 2021:   The Moated Sites of Yorkshire   Stephen Lonsdale
Stephen is a community archaeologist and PhD student at the University of York.  There are many more moated sites across Yorkshire than you might think   …  Stephen will be describing these which are the basis for his current research.

Tuesday 16th November 2021:    Finds From the Bishops’ Palace Excavation at Howden     Karen Adams
This Fireside chat will take a look at some of these finds and show how they have helped to understand more about the  historical and archaeological activity associated with this Scheduled Monument.  This will be an opportunity to find out how finds can be assessed and appropriately processed.

Tuesday 30th November 2021:  Photographing Small finds   Eric Houlder

Photographing finds is not a matter of snapping away. In this chat Eric shows a few techniques to make clear and meaningful pictures of finds  …  both on site and as part of the post excavation process.  This is another opportunity to share Eric’s expertise gained over a distinguished career as an archaeological photographer.
