Ingleborough Archaeology Group

Ingleborough Archaeology Group (IAG) was formed in April 1996. Its objects are to investigate and record any aspect of past human activity in the Ingleborough district (15 km radius from Ingleborough summit,) and to make available the results of such work. 

The Group has monthly talks and lectures at Ingleborough Community Centre between October and March on the third Monday in each month. It arranges a programme of summer evening walks from May through to September. At the moment we have approximately 60 members with interests ranging from the prehistoric to industrial archaeology.

  1. Long term project to investigate and map the Northern Terraces of Ingleborough.
  2. Surveying summit features of Ingleborough with a proffessional contractor under the auspices of the YDNPA
  3. Assisting with two small excavations on the summit of Ingleborough under the auspices of the YDNPA
  4. Assisting with the removal of walkers cairns on the summit of Ingleborough under the auspices of the YDNPA
  5. Continuing excavation at Kingsdale Head. This years project is completion of a Neolithic/Mesolithic site and will take place from May 21st - June 6th.
  6. Traditional Farm buildings Census - base line surveying of TFB's in Ingleton and Horton parishes.
