Spring meeting and AGM of The Historical Metallurgy Society, held at Helmsley Arts Centre, North Yorkshire, YO62 5DW. A themed meeting exploring the relationship between metals, religion and status. A variety of metals and periods will be covered. Talks include a glimpse at the gold jewellery from a royal Saxon cemetery to the production and use of iron in Medieval monasteries. There will be guided field trips to local sites of Helmsley Castle and Rievaulx Abbey. AGM (1.30 to 2.30pm) only free to members.
