Chapel House Wood is a Scheduled Ancient Monument, situated on private land, within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The area was first surveyed by Arthur Raistrick in 1960 and 1965 and later by Stewart Ainsworth in 1977.
Since 2002, research has been taking place under the guidance of Dr Roger Martlew of the Yorkshire Dales Landscape Research Trust in conjunction with Upper Wharfedale Heritage Group, the Earthwatch Institute and the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
The aims of the project are to further record the earthworks in the complex field system of Chapel House Wood and to excavate specific features in order to identify function and chronology.
The dates for the excavation in 2010 are Saturday July 3rd to Saturday July 24th.
Further details will be announced on the Yorkshire Dales Landscape Research Trust website.
