Medieval Iron Working in Cawthorne Park Woods.

Join archaeologists from the University of Sheffield and bring History to life in this historic woodland.

Discover the fascinating history of a 12th century Iron Working Landscape. See Iron Smelting in action and have a go yourself. Search the woods to materials and then build your own min Roundhouse. There will be guided tours of the wood and an opportunity to try out would field walking skills with an Iron Working treasure Hunt. Then cook your own food over our camp fire.

If you like to woods join us again for a two week survey workshop with Sheffield University in August.

This family event is Free and open to everyone, there is no need to book and no experience needed.
Please do bring suitable clothes for an outdoor event.

Location: Cawthorne Park Woods, Upper Field Lane, Kexborough, Barnsley. The entrance to the wood is on Upper Field Lane between Kexborough and High Hoyland. Please stop at the Double 5 Bar gate which have CPW on them. There will be a sign on the day.
