Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden is a World Heritage Site. Consisting of the countries largest Cistercian abbey ruins, elegant Georgian water garden carved out of the Skell Valley and ancient medieval deer park. The Abbey fell victim to Henry VIII's Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1539. Some of the stone from the Abbey ruin was later used to build Fountains Hall. The deer park is the oldest part of the estate, home to over 500 Red, Fallow and Sika deer.
