Forum

Forum is the annual newsletter of CBA Yorkshire (formerly CBA Group 4 - hence the name).

As well as a report from the Chairperson, the newsletter contains short articles, project reports, site summaries and notes relevant to the archaeology of Yorkshire.

Please note: Until 2002, the Forum numbering system meant that the year given on the cover referred to the year covered by the reports. Forum was published early in the following year. So for instance Forum 2001 covered work carried out in 2001 but was published in 2002. From 2003 the numbering system was changed to reflect the publication year. This means that there is no Forum 2002 in the sequence.

Writing for Forum

posted 18 Mar 2011 10:35 by Paul Brayford

We invite all members of CBA Yorkshire to submit articles for publication. These can include short articles, notes, project reports, and site summaries relevant to the archaeology of Yorkshire. In particular, we welcome reports from our affiliated groups and societies on their research and fieldwork. We also encourage archaeological consultancies and contractors working in Yorkshire to provide site summaries. We also ask people who speak at our annual Symposium to provide a summary of their talk.

Forum is not a formal, peer-reviewed publication so we do not seek articles of academic quality. Articles should normally be 300-1500 words, though we do accept longer pieces on occasion.  Our editing process is one of formatting for publication. We do not correct errors of spelling, grammar, style, punctuation or fact.

Submissions should be made electronically in MS Word (.DOC or .RTF) or plain text (.TXT) format. You should not use complex headings and subheadings, nor embedded images or special formatting. References should be set out in Harvard style, there should be no footnotes or other forms of reference in the text. We assume that the provision of a submission provides us with a royalty-free licence to publish it.

Publication quality images should be provided as JPEG files with a list of captions and their relevant position marked in the text with brackets - 'blah blah (Plate 1).'  All images should be licensed for publication by us, so where copyright is not that of the author, please provide a copy of the licence.

We suggest you use a previous issue as a guide.

Send your submission on a CD to

Deadlines are 31 October each year.

The attached file contains an index of articles for Forums published between 1990 and 1998.

We aim to convert this to a machine-readable form as soon as we can.

We would welcome volunteers willing to help us index volumes from 1999 onwards.
