Castle Hill, Almoundbury update 28th October 2020

Posted on 28/Oct/2020 Under Uncategorised

We are disappointed but unsurprised by Kirklees Council’s decision today to grant planning permission to the Thandi Partnership to build a cafe/restaurant at Castle Hill, Almondbury. This decision was made in spite of very many objections to the proposals, including those of CBA Yorkshire. A request has been made to the government to formally call in the plan for review. Regardless of the call-in, since Castle Hill is a scheduled monument under the 1979 Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act work cannot proceed without consent from Historic England who have formally objected to the plans.

The Huddersfield Examiner has a report on the proceedings which you can read here: https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/news/west-yorkshire-news/kirklees-council-gives-castle-hill-19181622
